This video presents the kata Bassai Dai, Bassai Sho and Tomari Bassai from Motobu Ha Shito Ryu Karate-Do. Each kata is demonstrated from many angles and at different speeds to help the student see the details in technique and timing. Each movement of the kata is also broken into segments of "Bunkai" or application. This will enable the viewer to understand how each technique could be applied to a self-defense encounter. |  |

The kata are performed by Shihan Dai Lewis E. Estes, 5th degree Black Belt from Kuniba Kai who studied directly under Soke Shogo Kuniba, 10th degree Black Belt in Motobu Ha Shito Ryu Karate-Do. Soke Kuniba also formulated his own self defense system know as Goshin Do, combining Karate, Judo, Jiu Jitsu and Aikido. Soke Kuniba was considered one of the premier martial arts instructors of Japan. |
